Yes. FCM converts VHS, Hi-8, and DV home videos to digital, as well as professional studio formats including Umatic, Umatic SP, Beta SP, Digital Betacam, DVCAM, DVC PRO, HDV and HDCAM SR. Transfers are delivered as digital files ready for storage, editing, or uploading, or burned to DVD if you'd like a physical backup copy as well.

Yes. During the transfer process, standard-definition tape can be upscaled to HD or 4K, using Blackmagic Design Teranex processors, the Hollywood standard, so old home movies and studio masters look sharper on today's screens and TVs.

Yes. In addition to tape transfers, FCM scans 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm film, as well as photo slides, converting them into digital files that are far easier to store, share, and back up than the originals. 35mm slides and negatives are scanned at a minimum of 3200 DPI, the minimum suggested by pro photography associations, to be able to make large prints.

FCM is a local, full-service video and audio tape transfer company rather than a mail-order transfer service. You don't need to worry about shipping your precious tapes across the country. We also turn most jobs around in a week or less depending on the size of the job. Clients can work directly with me. There is excellent communication with FCM. Yes. FCM's staff is available at flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and last-minute changes, to accommodate production schedules and client needs. There will generally be a "rush" charge to accommodate switching our clients around or changing plans to work on a last minute project.

Franklin Creative Media started out as "Home Video Productions" in 1991 while I was a senior at CSUN, studying in their Radio-TV-Film program. I was also an intern at America's Funniest Home Videos (AFHV), where I learned about all of the different consumer and professional videotape formats. I did get to speak to the show's star, Bob Saget (may he rest in peace), fairly often. He was super nice to everyone, even the lowly interns.

I figured that since AFHV was one of the top 10 TV shows every week, calling my business "Home Video Productions" would give it a familiarity, like people had heard of it. I was also using high-end consumer S-VHS camcorders — I bought one that the show used to give away as its "second prize" from RCA using my staff discount.

After a few years, I decided "Home Video Productions" didn't sound professional enough, so I renamed the company "Franklin Video Productions, Inc." After being incorporated for about 10 years, we un-incorporated, as there were few benefits to incorporating in California and quite a few negatives. We became "Franklin Video Productions" — but this confused the State of California and their bureaucracy. To make a long story short, we became Franklin Creative Media because they couldn't "un-incorporate" us in their computer systems. It wasn't worth fighting with them — and honestly, I thought it was a cool name!
